Sue Capps Meador was born to Simon and Irene Cook Capps in Newcastle, Arkansas on January 31, 1930. She grew up in Heth, Arkansas where her parents farmed and also owned a general store. At an early age, Sue loved helping her dad farm and continued her love of farming throughout her life. During the 1937 flood, she developed hepatitis. Her parents were forced to take her by boat to the nearest train stop that wasn't flooded. From there they proceeded by train to Memphis, Tennessee and on to Methodist hospital. Sue met the love of her life on a blind date. Prior to the date, Clifton Meador was described to her as being an officer, a gentleman and a farmer. To her, truer words were never spoken! They lived and raised their girls in Dumas, Arkansas surrounded by lots of Meador family and many many friends. Sue was the original DIY girl before anyone ever coined the phrase. She was also a gourmet cook for her family and friends. She sewed, decorated, used most power tools and built whatever she needed. Before sprinkler systems were commercially available, she made an elaborate one for her flower bed out of PVC pipe. She made ornate headboards for her daughters and monogrammed their dresses. Once, after watching a man carve a life-sized cigar-store Indian with a chainsaw, she found and pulled a log home, got her own saw and carved a replica of St. Francis. When a tornado came through Dumas years later and decapitated her St. Francis, he was renamed John the Baptist! Sue had a wonderful sense of humor and took great pride in her home, yard, kitchen and family. In the 1970's, Sue and her husband Clif loved to host dinner parties. They would come up with a menu together and she would cook while he helped do the dishes. They loved entertaining in many settings. When they were young, they would load an old Bob-truck with cotton and invite neighbors and friends on a cotton ride and weenie roast to blue Hole near the Arkansas River. They also enjoyed taking their girls to Big Island Hunting Club. Sue and Clif loved to travel and saw much of the world together. He was an avid photographer and had fantastic pictures documenting their adventures. They took their daughters on wonderful family vacations and instilled a love of travel in each. They were also dedicated Razorback fans who enjoyed going to games with extended family. They loved their family and friends. They led a happy and fun life together and relished all the time they spent with one another. Sue leaves behind a family who loved her dearly with many happy memories. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Cliffton L. Meador, her parents, Simon and Irene Cook Capps and her sister, Ruth Capps Rondeau. She is survived by her three daughters, their spouses and six grandchildren, Robbye Meador Taylor and Mathew, Meredith Meador Karr, husband Mike and sons Drake & Trent Rana and Allison Meador Alexander, husband Bill and children Bob, Sally and Jimmy Alexander.
