Sunrise: Retired SFC Gene Albert Sanders was born to the Late Abe and Ardelia Turner Sanders on January 3, 1942 in Pine Bluff, Ark. He confessed his hope in Christ and was baptized at Cross Street Christian Church in Little Rock, Ar and was a member at Mt. Beulah Christian Church in Pine Bluff, Ark. for many years. After graduating from Southeast High School in 1961, Gene enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country for 20 years and retired as a Communications Chief. During his career in the military he received numerous awards: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Fifth Award, Soldiers Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon Second Award. After retirement from The US Army he worked for the US Postal Service and as a ROTC Instructor at Warren High School. Gene had a passion for sports such as football, tennis, and track. His calling from God was to help those who were less fortunate than he was. He dedicated his time and made numerous contributions to services for Veterans, Ronald McDonald House, Feed the Children, Our Daily Bread Ministries, and Simon Temple AME Zion Church of Fayetteville, North Carolina just to name a few. Sunset: Gene finished his course on earth and entered into God's Kingdom on February 18, 2016 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is survived by his children, Jacqueline (Kalven) Trice of Little Rock, Ark. Kirk Sanders Sr. of Dallas, Texas, Carla Sanders-Nelson and Pamala (Rod) Himon of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren: Kerian Trice, Kirk Sanders Jr., Kyle Nelson, Nundee Sanders, and Joseph R. Himon II; great-grandchildren: Kirk Sanders III and Ky'Lanie Sanders. He is also survived by his siblings: Harold (Beatrice) Sanders Sr., Cornelius Sanders, and Teresa (OD) Brown of Pine Bluff, Ark., Charles (Ora) Sanders of Benton Harbor, Mich., Jimmy (Felicia) Sanders of Atlanta, Ga., Lorine Shears and Erma (Joe) Carter of Houston, Texas. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Leroy Sanders and Morris Sanders Sr. and Sister Martha Collins. Family hour will be today from 6 til 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Friday February 26, 2016, 10 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Christain Church, 624 Hickory St., North Little Rock, Ark. The family will be at 615 St. Michael Place off Chenal Parkway. Service entrusted to Premier Funeral Home, 1518 S. Battery St., Little Rock, Ark. 72202.
