Charles Neal

Charles F. Neal, age 82, of Morganton, Arkansas passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was born in Morganton on September 7, 1933 to James Perry and Dorothy Dyer (Van Nada) Neal. His parents, one son, Charles Randy Neal, two sisters, Doris Pritchard and Joyce Lewallen, and one brother, Raymond Neal, preceded Mr. Neal in death. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Byrd (Randell) of Conway, Arkansas, and Kathy Murphy (Mike) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two brothers, Howard Ross Neal of South Carolina; and Robert Van Neal of Springfield, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Jeff Byrd, Ryan Byrd, Bethany McCleland, Brandon Byrd, Sarah Wilson, and Jo Ann Hosman; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Mr. Neal was a land surveyor in Van Buren County, Arkansas from 1955 until retirement, serving as the County Surveyor for many of these years. He served as a Sergeant in the Army from 1953 until 1955 while stationed in Korea as a supervisor in field artillery survey operations. Mr. Neal received his early education at Morganton, Arkansas where his parents were his teachers. He graduated from Southside School at Bee Branch and earned a degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. He had a passion for reading and studying, especially theology and history, and enjoying sharing his understanding with friends and family. Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 9-11 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, followed by graveside services at Morganton Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. officiated by the Reverend Ronald Byrd. www.griffinleggettconway.com.
