She was born October 5, 1927, in the Ouachita County Hospital at Camden, a daughter of the late John Chester Moore and Mary Hale Moore. She grew up in the Frenchport community and was educated in the Fairview Schools. She has a brother, James Randolph Moore, who still resides in Camden.
