Josephine McKenzie

Josephine McKenzie, 93, of Conway, passed from this life on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. She was born on Dec. 18, 1922 in Greenbrier to the late Olon Matthews and Corinna Elliott Matthews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Delmar McKenzie and a brother, Lindon Matthews. Josephine was salutatorian and her husband, Delmar was valedictorian of their Greenbrier High School class. She always said she had to marry him because he was the only one who was smarter than she was. After high school, she attended Arkansas Teacher's College for two years. Delmar served in the Air Force and retired after 21 years. After retiring, both he and Josephine went back to college at U.C.A. and after graduation, became school teachers. She taught 9th-12th grade math at St. Joseph in Conway for many years, and he taught history and economics at Conway High School. Josephine also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Nash of Greenbrier; sister, Juanita Fryer of Bentonville; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4 2016 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with visitation starting one hour prior to service.
