Charlene Sullivan Cathey, 92, passed away on January 6, 2016 in Bentonville. She was born in Grange, Sharp County, Arkansas on April 16, 1923 to the late Murphy and Jewel (Mobly) Sullivan. She was the wife of the late George Cathey whom she married on December 24, 1949. Mrs. Cathey received her teaching degree at the Arkansas State Teaching College. She lived in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas before moving to Fayetteville. George and Charlene's firstborn was Gail, August 19, 1952, then two years later, son Nathan was born on August 28, 1954. More than 10 years later in 1967, they moved to Greenville, Mississippi, where she taught at an elementary school. Her passion was Home Economics, which she also taught briefly. She had many devoted friends through church and bridge. She was a member of the First United Methodist in Bentonville for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends at Apple Blossom for the past 5 years. Charlene was a very loving woman whom her grandsons adored. She spoke with Michael daily and was very proud of Daniel's choice to return to college. It also meant a lot to her that throughout the years, her nieces and nephews remained close to her. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents; daughter, Gail Swisher; step-grandson, Daniel S. Belk; siblings, Pat Sullivan, Nell Ironside, Louise Halbrook, and Helen Fudge. She is survived by her son, Nathan and wife, Jane Cathey of Washington; son-in-law, Brian Swisher and daughter-in-law, April Swisher of Bentonville; grandsons, Daniel and Michael Swisher; step-grandchildren, Travis and Katie Belk; 15 nieces and nephews; and many special friends. A visitation will be on Friday from 1-3 p.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. Addition services will be on Saturday, January 9, 2015, starting at 9 a.m. with a service at 10 a.m. in Qualls Funeral Home Chapel, 326 N Main St, Cave City, Ark. 72521.
