Thomas Melvin "Mel" Fluhart, age 91, of Bryant, Arkansas, passed away December 31, 2015. He was born on August 9, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Thomas and Ethel Fluhart. He was a long time resident of Columbus, Ohio where he attended Capital University majoring in Music and played the bass in the "Big Band" during his military service from 1943-1945. He was a part of the US Fighting Squadron 49 and served on the USS Shipley Bay in the Pacific during World War II. He spent most of his career working in Sales Management for BC Remedy, Mrs. Smith and Hudson Industries. In 1987, Thomas moved to Hot Springs Village where he resided for 25 years and founded the Hot Springs Village Voice Newspaper in 1990. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Hot Springs Village POA. Thomas enjoyed spending his free time playing golf, tennis and music. He was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge and was a devout Christian who last attended 7th Day Adventist services. He held a special place in his heart for boxers, especially for his beloved Mindy, Dexter, and Sassy. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Theodore Fluhart, sister; Thelma Manicho, and his boxers, Dexter and Sassy. He is survived by daughters; Kimberly Simmons (Matt) of Bryant, Arkansas, Robin Lanning (Randy) of Columbus, Ohio, Cynthia Diaz (Richard); sister, Marie Melsop of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren; Lindzae and Nicklaus Fisher, Wes, Ryan and Kevin Lanning and his beloved boxer Mindy. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Caruth Village Funeral Home with Wade Overturf officiating. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
