Morin Montagu Scott Jr, born on April 12, 1949 in Austin, Texas, died at home in Little Rock on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Monty is survived by his wife of 32 years, Becky Butler Scott, their children, Morin M. Scott III, of Austin, Texas and Catherine Elizabeth Joy Scott of New York, N.Y.; and, his sister, Susan Scott Ross and her husband, Robert of Houston, Texas. He is predeceased by his parents, Morin M. Scott Sr. and Mary Jane Joy Manning Scott, of Austin, Texas and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Grady Manning and Mr. and Mrs. William Len Seaman. No one loved life more than Monty Scott. He came by that trait naturally. His Arkansas mother and Texas father were tireless travelers and friends to all. Monty grew up with parents that loved their family, their community and they adored playing host to their friends for countless Arkansas-Texas football games. Monty followed suit. Monty graduated from Suffield Academy, Suffield, Conn. and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and Menlo Park School of Business, in Atherton, Calif. After stents at Goldman Sachs and in the oil and gas industry, ultimately, the family business was to be his life's work. Both his mother and father had long histories in the ownership and operation of hotels across Arkansas and Texas. At the time of his death, Monty served as President of Southwest Hotels, Inc., which owned and operated The Arlington Hotel & Spa in Hot Springs, Arkansas, as well as owning the Hot Springs Country Club. The Company and related interests oversaw in banking, real estate and investments principally in Arkansas and Texas. Like his parents, Monty was devoted to his communities where ever he lived: Austin, Houston, Hot Springs and Little Rock. Monty was a member of the board of directors of Simmons First National Bank, where is he was a member of the Loan Committee. He was a founding corporate director and investor in Little Rock-based Delta Trust & Banking Corp. which merged with Simmons in 2014. Like his father, Monty, was committed to the values and leadership essentials of the Scouting movement. He was a member of the executive board of the Quapaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a former director of the Arkansas Arts Center and member of the Hot Springs Rotary Club. He is a former director of Texas Commerce Bank of Houston. Every encounter with Monty brought just the right combination of dedication, loyalty to cause, and, of course, humor. As an active investor and hotel operator, Monty was deeply committed to the business and resort development of Hot Springs National Park. He was a former member of the Hot Springs Advertising & Promotion Commission and the Hot Springs Chamber. His leadership resulted in the beautiful new club house complex and the exceptional redesign of the Hot Springs Country Club golf courses by PGA legend, Ben Crenshaw, a fellow Austinite and long-time friend. Monty and Becky loved entertaining their family and friends on Lake Hamilton. Monty was most at home on the lake or on the golf course where he always brought good cheer whether at Austin Country Club, Hot Springs Country Club, Country Club of Little Rock, Houston Country Club, or The Alotian Club. O'Connor, Congressman French Hill, Philip Tappan, Randy Mourot, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; Chuck Nash of Austin, Texas, Jim Scott and Dennis Tottenham of San Antonio, Texas; Lloyd Wolf of Dallas, Texas and colleagues Dean Ashworth, Bob Martorana and Barry Howard.
