C.D. Smith

C.D. Smith, 84, of Pine Bluff went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. C.D. was born on September 30, 1931, in Grant County, Arkansas, to Jacob Oscar and Onie Lawrence Smith. He received his education at Watson Chapel Schools. C.D. enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and served until he was honorably discharged. Together with his family, he operated C.D. Smith Motor Company, Inc., in Pine Bluff for over 40 years. C.D. loved being with his family and working in the Pine Bluff community. He loved to fish and welcomed a fishing expedition with just about anyone. C.D. was a long-time member of Pine Bluff First Assembly of God, where he was a greeter for many years and served as a Trustee. He enjoyed participating in the church's "Sonshiners" Senior Adult Group. He is survived by one daughter, Beth Smith Wilson and her husband Richard M. Wilson of White Hall; two grandchildren, Amber Wilson Bagley and her husband Dr. Alan Bagley of Little Rock, and Rocky Wilson and his fiancé Kassie Woodard of Jonesboro; his great-granddaughter, Anna Beth Bagley; and one sister, Mattie Bell Conner; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Betty S. Smith, his parents, and three brothers, Houston Smith, Grover Smith and J.D. Smith. We would like to thank our family and friends for their prayers and support. We would also like to thank the devoted staff of Whispering Knoll Assisted Living for caring for C.D. for the last 2 1/2 years during his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Family visitation will precede the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at First Assembly of God Pine Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Pat Hart officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, where he will be buried alongside his wife.
