Bill "Dirt" Landers

William Theodore "Bill" Landers, 85, of Benton, was called home by his Heavenly Father on January 16, 2016. Bill was better known at "Dirt" to many. He was born August 16, 1930 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Willie W. and Maudie L. Rigsby Landers. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Ruth, Robert, Loyd and Muriel, his first wife, Maxine McGee and second wife, Mary Landers. Bill is survived by sons, William Steven Landers (Dana) and Ricky Neil Landers, grandchildren, Farra Landers Cassidy, Cayce Landers, (Lindie), great-grandchildren, Lainie Jo, Gray, Everett, Garner, Ford, Carter and Cannon. A very special nephew, Wayne Landers (Jan) and family of Lancaster, Calif. Bill retired from Aloca after 30 years of service. He then went on to retire again, after seven years of service from Ashby Funeral Home. Bill also drove for Landers Auto for several years. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the 20th fighter bomber wing, Wethersfield, England. He never met a stranger and enjoyed story telling to his grandchildren. Bill loved eating and fellowship with his friends at the Saline Memorial Hospital. He spoiled many with his chocolate pies and banana pudding. Bill loved his Mt. Dews, Bingo and his dogs, Elco and Bimbo. The north door was always open and Bat Masterson was always on T.V. He will forever be missed, our daddy, our papaw, our hero. Pallbearers will be Don Opitz, Tom Opitz, John Newcomb, Paul Bert Tudor, Rasoul Muhammad, Joe Wise, Jerry Jones, Cayce Landers, Honorary Pallbearers, great-grandsons, Gray Cassidy, Garner Cassidy, Ford Cassady, Carter Landers and Cannon Landers. Chapel services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ashbys with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ashby Funeral Home, Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to Dementia and Alzhiemers Research 210 North Walton Avenue #25, Bentonville, Arkansas 72712.
