Donald Edward Shaw, 81, died Dec. 26, 2015 in Las Vegas, N.M. A renowned artist and arts educator, his art is in museum, corporate, and private collections across the U.S., including the Smithsonian. Born in Boston Aug. 24, 1934, he studied at School of the MFA–Boston, taught and exhibited in Boston and in San Francisco 1960-68, Guadalajara, Mexico 1968–71, Houston 1971-84 and Pine Bluff, Ark. 1984-2009 when he moved to Guadalupita, N.M. An early modernist in Houston, he showed at leading galleries and chaired sculpture department at the School of the MFA–Houston 1974-78. In Arkansas he taught youth and elders statewide. His most recent solo exhibition was at Ray Drew Gallery in Las Vegas, N.M., 2013. Shaw was preceded in death by parents and a nephew. He is survived by children Rima Olga Shaw (Pascal), Adam John Marrel Shaw (Isabelle) and Robert Edward Cherry-Shaw; grandchildren Anna Luigi and Aneka Shaw; sisters Jane Shanks (Robert) and Elaine Powers Glass (Robert), nephews, nieces, and 8 great-nephews and nieces.
