Vivian C. Lewis, 93, of Springdale, Ark., died Jan. 21, 2016 at Washington Regional Medical Center at Fayetteville. She was born Feb. 24, 1922 at Fayetteville, Ark., the daughter of Sam R. and Dessa Hester Couch, both of whom predeceased her. She was one of four siblings: brothers, Stanley Couch deceased, Carl Couch of Fayetteville, Ark., and sister, Wilma Caughman of Farmington, Ark. She married Ernest M. Lewis on Aug. 2, 1941 in Washington County, Ark. They were loving friends and partners in life until his death in 1991. Vivian was an ideal combination of attentive, caring mother and homemaker of the 1930's, 40's and 50's and a strong, independent working woman of the later 20th century. After rearing her children (though the process never stopped), she became the office manager at the medical clinic of Doctors Smith and Box in Huntsville. Later she was a fixture at the Madison County Court House, and according to reports, was the go-to person when difficult questions arose. She served for many years as volunteer treasurer/bookkeeper for the Huntsville United Methodist Church, of which she was a member and on the board of Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab. She was also a member of a long running bridge club of close friends and was known by many and loved by most. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Sherri Lewis of Fayetteville, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn S. and Jeff Hawkins of Springdale, Ark.; three granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law: Heather and Chad Glascock, Courtney and Phillip Harmon, and Kendra Hawkins; and five doted on great-grandchildren: McKenna and Brynlee Glascock, Tyler, Tayler and Teagen Harmon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26 in the Brashears Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Rob Ernest officiating. Interment will be in the Farmington Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home, www.brashearsfuneralhome.net at Huntsville. Pallbearers will be Phillip Harmon, Chad Glascock, Billy Allred, Frank Weaver, Wes Fowler and Herb Hathorn. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Harmon and Dr. Tom Whiting. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the family present. The family wish to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Washington Regional Medical Center for their kind care in her last week. Good night mom, "and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest".
