Virginia Connell Martin

Virginia Connell Martin, or "Ginny" as she was known by friends, of Hot Springs, passed from this life on January 25, 2016 as a result of injuries she sustained in a fall. She was born on May 29, 1943 in Hope, Arkansas to George L. and Dulcie C. Connell. Ginny grew up in Harrison. After graduating from Hendrix College in 1965 Ginny studied art in Asia and worked as a musician, weaver, artist and goldsmith most of her life. She loved gardening and was active in the Master Gardener program until her injury. Ginny loved to travel and she and her husband traveled the world in earnest, knowing her health would not sustain travel for many years ahead. In each country she would involve herself in the local arts and handicrafts and managed to bring back many unique musical instruments that she would learn to play. One of her most rewarding interests was teaching adult beginning piano students. Ginny was a hero to those close to her and who watched her cope with progressive losses of physical ability due to systemic lupus. With each new limitation Ginny seemed to find ways to continue to express her artistic drive. Despite constant pain she maintained a positive outlook on life and could always see the best in other people and make meaningful connections with them. She is survived by her husband, Donald G. Martin; son, Christopher A. Bost of Hot Springs; daughter, Blair Cahill (Mike) and their children of Ojai, California; sister, Gina Fine (Doug) and their children of Palmetto, Florida. The family will hold a private service. Guests may register at www.GrossFuneralHome.com.
