Floy Barnes, 93, of Hamburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at her residence in Hamburg. She was born in Moro Bay, Arkansas, October 31, 1922. She was the second of five children born to Oscar and Birdie Watson Johnston. She graduated from Arkansas A&M where she was a campus beauty and a member of Who's Who. One day Floy's class was interrupted by an airplane buzzing the school. Gene was flying across country and buzzed the school where Floy was teaching. All the students ran outside to wave, causing quite fuss in the community. She and Gene married and moved from Monticello to Warren to Locus Bayou. In 1952, they moved to Hamburg. She was active in her church, First United Methodist Church, where she was on the board, in the choir, and taught Sunday School. For many years, she was an active member of the Hamburg Garden Club. She also worked in the family business, P.E. Barnes Lumber. She loved gardening and had a green thumb. She was good cook, an avid hunter and accompanied her men on many hunting ventures. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, P.E. Barnes, Sr. in 1999; a great-granddaughter, Judith Rosamond Barnes in 2008; her parents, Oscar and Birdie Watson Johnston and three sisters.
