Katherine ‘Kat' Harrel Block

Katherine ‘Kat' Harrel Block, 89, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born April 4, 1927, at Lewisville, Ark. to John Allen and Cora Harrel. A gracious and true Southern lady, Kat was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Paragould, she served on several committees and was an ardent Sunday School attendee. Katherine was very much loved by family and friends that she cherished. She was a member of PEO, a book club, and a bridge club and charter member of Club 21, a supper club. An avid Arkansas Razorback fan, she always enjoyed either attending or just watching Razorback sports with family and friends. She was a den mother to her son's Cub Scout Pack and entertained and fed numerous children in their neighborhood. Kat greeted everyone with a hug and a gracious smile. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William J. Block; brothers, John and David Harrel; grandson, Toby Block: and nephews, Dennis and Drew Powell, Houston. Katherine is survived by two sons, Jeff (Carolyn) Block, Paragould, Steve (Patrice) Block, Dallas; six grandchildren, Trey (Jeanette) Currey, San Antonio, Jennifer (Joey) Barr, Paragould, Tobi Hurley, Columbia, Mo., Chaney (Maggie) Block, Miami, Elizabeth (Nate) Stopper, New York, Bryan Block, Dallas; and seven great-grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Barr, Paragould, Gabriela and Sophia Currey, San Antonio, Eva and Emily Block, Miami, Riley Block, Paragould; grand-dogs include Dylan, Sydney, Roscoe and Elliot. Funeral Services will be under the direction of Heath Funeral Home at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, at First United Methodist Church with Brother John Fleming officiating. There will be a celebration of her life immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to First United Methodist Church building fund.
