Judge Larry W. Chandler, 73, of Magnolia, Ark., formerly of Crossett, Ark. passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Magnolia, Ark. Judge Chandler was born on August 4, 1942 in Crossett, AR. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Hendrix College and his law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Judge Chandler moved to Magnolia in 1969 and entered private law practice. On March 16, 1994, Governor Jim Guy Tucker appointed Judge Chandler to fill the Chancery Judge vacancy in Division 1 of the Thirteenth Judicial District. On February 15, 1995, he was appointed to fill a newly created judicial position. On January 1, 1997, he was appointed to fill a vacancy in Division 3. He was elected to his current position in 2001 and took office January 1, 2002. He held a special place in his heart for those who served the 13th Judicial District. Judge Chandler is a past President of the Magnolia Jaycees, the Magnolia and Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, and the Magnolia Bar Association. In 1998, he was recognized as Juvenile Judge of the Year for the State of Arkansas by the Court Appointed Special Advocates. In 2001, he began serving at the Columbia County Adult Drug Court Judge and in 2002, he began serving at the Columbia County Juvenile Drug Court Judge. In 2006 and 2014, he received the Juvenile Judge of the Year award from Arkansas Coalition of Juvenile Justice. From 2010 through 2015 he served on the Arkansas Public Defender Commission and State Court Reporter's Committee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Hayden and Hester Evelyn Chandler, father and mother in law Charles Arthur (Chuck) and Jeanne Kenworthy Milton, and daughter in law Heather Adams Chandler. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Chandler of Magnolia, Ark.; daughters, Shannon Cook and husband English of Conway, Ark., Shelley Youngblood of Conway, Ark., and Ashley Chandler of Magnolia; sons, Ryan Chandler and wife Jill of Greenbrier and Kyle Chandler of Magnolia; seven granddaughters, Riley Youngblood of Conway, Addison Cook of Conway, Presley Stansell of Magnolia, Hadley Stansell of Magnolia, Madeline Chandler of Magnolia, Taylor Chandler of Greenbrier, and Tatum Chandler of Greenbrier; five grandsons, Chandler Stansell of Magnolia, Hayden Youngblood of Conway, Travis Chandler of Greenbrier, Easton Braswell of Magnolia, and Braden Waller of Magnolia; brother and sister in law Bob and Jody Milton of Warren, Skip and Debbi Milton of Fordyce; and Trial Court Assistant Becky Drake Compton of Magnolia; and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Micah Cater officiating and Bro. LeRoy Martin assisting. Visitation will be held directly after the service. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Warren under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Pallbearers will be Robert Milton, Michael Milton, Bob Milton, Skip Milton, Patrick Milton, Brad Youngblood, and English Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be his colleagues, court officials, and law enforcement. The family would like to give a special thanks to Bro.
