Ruth Wynn Carmical Sadler

Ruth Wynn Carmical Sadler, 86, of Rison died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Green House Cottages in Rison. Mrs. Sadler was born in Rison, December 14, 1929, a daughter of the late Rucker Carlisle (R.C.) and Lucile Robertson Carmical. A resident of Rison most all of her life, she was salutatorian of the 1947 graduating class at Rison High School and was a 1950 graduate of State Teachers College at Conway (now the University of Central Arkansas), where she received her degree in Home Economics and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. On June 16, 1951, she married William Guy (Bill) Sadler and he preceded her in death December 4, 1989. She lived with her husband at Harrison, Benton and McGehee where he was involved with newspapers and they returned to Rison in 1957. Mrs. Sadler assisted her husband and family in many ways over the years with publication of the Cleveland County Herald at Rison until it was sold in 2002. First and foremost in her life, though, Mrs. Sadler was a Home Economics teacher teaching one year at Marianna High School in 1950-1951 and at Rison High School for 30 years, retiring in 1995. As in her days when she attended school at Rison, she had a tremendous love for the Wildcats and as a teacher during football season she made sure jerseys and pants were sewn and patched for games. She also had a love for all of her students and fellow teachers and workers at Rison School and elsewhere. She was a long-time member of Rison United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Board of the church, was a teacher and sang in the church choir. She also served as a member of the Cleveland County Library Board. Mrs. Sadler was named a Distinguished Alumna of the University of Central Arkansas. She served as an advisor at the local, district and state levels for the FHA/HERO program and was a Star events coordinator. After retiring she continued to serve as an evaluator in district, state and national competitions. She served in leadership positions in several professional associations and was featured as a "Vocational Pace Setter" by the Arkansas Department of Vocational Education - Family and Consumer Sciences Department. Survivors include two sons, Bill and wife, Donna of Little Rock, and Stan and wife, Paula of Rison; two grandchildren, Lee Sadler of Rison and Clara Sadler of Conway. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at Rison United Methodist Church with Reverend Ike Mohr and Brother Lanis Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Rison. Men of the church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors in the home.
