Christine Smith Johnson, age 78, of Fayetteville passed away at the Willard Walker Hospice on Wednesday, July 13 after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke surrounded by her family. She was born June 28, 1938 in Leachville, Arkansas to Ray and Edna (Linhart) Smith. At age 7 Christine moved to Northwest Arkansas. After her father's untimely death, William Powell became her stepfather. Christine led a full life. She served her community as the first woman to lead the Fayetteville Noon Lions Club and as a successful businesswoman, including as co-founder of Ozark Mountain Air, Inc. She was a talented distance runner, competing successfully in many local races. Christine is best remembered as a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. A remarkably selfless caregiver, her love for her family and friends was both fierce and tender. Stories of her kindnesses both large and small are beyond count. Her quiet grace and loving kindness will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Calvin and Jackie. Christine is survived by her husband, Lewis Johnson; daughter, Julie Johnson Garton and her husband Brett; her son, Jonathan Johnson; four sisters, Shirley Hester, Linda Ludwick, Freda McChristian, and Eve Griner; one brother, Johnnie Smith; five grandchildren, Jennifer Simmons and her husband John, Daniel Cox, Jonathan Cox, Sarah Langham and her husband John, Mary Gwin and her husband Justin; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Lillian, Vivienne, and Rebekah. Visitation will be 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday July 17, 2016 at Moore's Chapel. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Fayetteville.
