Don Becker Dodson

Don Becker Dodson of El Dorado, Arkansas passed away on July 17, 2016 at the age of 64 after a lengthy illness. Don was born on October 9, 1952 in Springfield, Missouri. He was a graduate of Camden High School, Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law where he graduated with honors and was Notes Editor of the UALR Law Journal. After graduating from law school in 1978, he joined the law firm of Nolan, Alderson & Jones in El Dorado, Arkansas. Later, he was a partner with Guthrie, Burbank, Dodson & McDonald and Burbank, Dodson & Barker. Don practiced law for 38 years in El Dorado. He was widely recognized as an expert in probate and real estate. He served on the Board of Directors of Warner Brown Hospital and performed extensive pro bono work. Like his father before him, Don and his son Mark attended numerous Razorback sporting events. Don would experience a swell of emotional State pride when the Razorbacks ran through the "A". Later in life, Don and Mark enjoyed late summer baseball games in the right field bleachers of the Ball Park in Arlington cheering on their beloved Texas Rangers. He also loved life on the Ouachita River. So much so, that he and his law partners owned a camp at Moro Bay. He would drive his boat upriver, only to shut off the motor and peacefully float back to the dock late in the afternoon. His favorite place, however, was Becker, Texas, where he enjoyed horseback riding and other outdoor activities with his son, brothers and cousins. Don is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Becker Dodson. His is survived by his son, Mark Dodson of El Dorado, Arkansas; his father, Dr. Edwin B. Dodson of Texarkana, Arkansas; two brothers, Bob Dodson and wife, Kathy; Dick Dodson and wife, Cheryl, all of Texarkana, Arkansas; He is also survived by numerous family members and friends. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, El Dorado, Arkansas, with Reverend Keith Dodson officiating. Interment will be on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Becker Family Cemetery in Becker, Texas, with Reverend Bob Williams officiating and under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home.
