Mildred Reed Lumpkin, 96, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died July 18, 2016. Mildred, lovingly known as Mimi, was born to Levi S. Reed and Maude C. Reed, February 8, 1920 in Malvern, Arkansas. Mimi was the beloved wife of Lt Col Claude C. Lumpkin Jr. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith. She was the perfect Army wife and loving mother. She is survived by three children, Claude C. Lumpkin III (Janis) of Burlington, North Carolina, Beth Lumpkin Shanks (Don) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Don Lumpkin (Hazel) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, five grandchildren, Claude F. "Rick" Lumpkin (Christina), Katie Lumpkin Cole (Pete), Brooke Berryhill (Todd Hoofman), Stuart B. Berryhill (Ruthie), and Lindsay Lumpkin Jerden (Travis), as well as nine great-grandchildren. Mimi was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sisters, Florence McDonald and Lillian Gautney, and brother, Donald Reed. The family would like to thank the nurses on the West Wing at Methodist Health and Rehabilitation and her caregiver Destiny, and nurse, Jamie, from Peachtree Hospice. Graveside services will be held at Little Rock National Cemetery on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
