Randle Lee Alexander

Randy Alexander was once asked by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette to name his worst habit. He replied "Being persistent to a fault." But those who knew, loved, and worked with Randy would not put "persistence" in his liability column. Persistence — along with integrity, loyalty, and respect — were qualities his family, friends and colleagues came to count on in him. Randle Lee Alexander was born in Little Rock on June 30, 1945, and passed away here on July 22, 2016. In between those years he persisted in life, developing a sharp mind, great habits, and a personal style that became synonymous with his name. Randy earned a degree in marketing from what was then Little Rock University (now UALR). He persisted in business, developing both an acumen and passion for real estate, which reached its apex with his ownership of McKay & Company Realtors. Randy was a leader in the industry serving as President of the Little Rock Board of Realtors and as a trustee of the Arkansas Realtors Political Action committee. He was a founding member of the Board of Advisors of The Real Estate Leaders of America. Randy was as meticulous in the points of a deal as he was with the cut of his suit, the choice of his tie, and the shine of his shoes. He persisted in serving the community he loved, finding opportunities to give back to Little Rock. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and Club 99 Rotary — which recognized him as the 1998 Paul Harris Fellow. He was Chairman of Central Arkansas Ducks Unlimited for five years and served on the Foundation Boards of St. Vincent Hospital, and UALR. His service extended to, among others, 50 for the Future, Boy Scouts of America, United Way, Easter Seals, and the Central Arkansas Alzheimer's Association. Randy liked soul music. He was a great dancer. As disciplined as he was, it was hard for him to pass up a good cookie. He didn't mind that his dogs and cats called him "Daddykins" — or more accurately, he didn't mind that his wife said that's what they called him. He persisted in all things that mattered most to him — family, friends, and faith. And even in the challenges he faced in the homestretch of his life, he persisted with the same quiet dignity and consistency that marked his best years. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel Alexander, and brother-in-law, Vernon Jenkins. Randy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gynell (Gy) Alexander of Little Rock, his daughter, Kathryn Kristine (Kristi) Alexander, and a grandson, Eli Christopher Alexander, both of Little Rock. He is also survived by his sister, Suzanne Jenkins of Oakland, Tenn., nephews Jason Jenkins and Scott Jenkins, of Arlington, Tenn., nephew, Seth Padgett of Little Rock, and niece, Sara Padgett Heathcott of Durham, North Carolina. Honorary Pallbearers are Heath Harper, Mark Carroll, Joe Solomon, John Ransom, Graham Catlett, Alfred Williams, Ed Moore, Bill Ross, Alan Fureigh, and Rob Owens. Visitation with be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 24th at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Little Rock's Second Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 25th at 11 a.m., with Reverend Steve Hancock, and Reverend Karen Akin officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. 72211. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the CNAs and staff of Clarity Pointe Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas, American Cancer Society, or Second Presbyterian Church. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
