EDITH RHEIN JOHNSON TREADWAY, 85, died July 19, 2016 Little Rock, Ark. She was born on Aug. 24, 1930 to Louis and Elsie Rhein in Mannheim, Germany. The impending war encouraged her parents, fraternal grandparents and Edith to flee to the United States. They landed at Ellis Island in January 1937 and settled in Eudora, Ark., where they joined other family members. After nine months, they moved to Little Rock where she lived the rest of her life. Edith was a 1948 graduate of Mt. St. Mary Academy and a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church since 1950 and was also the school secretary for five years. In 1968, she was employed by the Little Rock School District as the school secretary at Fair Park Elementary School where she remained for 22 years. She was involved in several areas of volunteerism at Holy Souls Church: was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during the Korean crisis and was a volunteer for blood drives of the Arkansas Red Cross. In 1969, she was selected as the Junior Bowling League's Mother of the Year. She was a lifetime member of Holy Souls PTA and a member of the Women's Emergency Committee. She also served as an election official in Pulaski County and was a member of the NEA, AEA, and ARTRS. Throughout her life she was an avid reader and advocate for the public library system. She valued her right to vote and exercised it at every election. She was also very proud to be a distant relative of the late Albert Einstein. She was a member of the "Golden Girls," a group of friends who graduated together from Mt. St. Mary's in 1948. To Rose Schlatterer, Radine Clark, Annette Wahlgreen, Phyllis Clark and Inny DelDonno, a note was left for you: "One may leave the group, but they are never gone. What a blessing you all were to me, Edith". Mrs. Treadway was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred E. (Al) Treadway, and her first husband, Williford (Willie) Johnson. She is survived by her children, Charles (Chuck) Johnson and his wife Deborah, of Fort Worth, Texas, and their two sons, Alex Johnson and Brian Johnson both of Houston, Texas, and her daughter Christina (Christy) Johnson Bohannon and her husband John and his daughter Chloe of Little Rock. She is also survived by step-sons Doug Treadway of Little Rock and Don Treadway and his wife Kim and their children Drew, Taylor, Matthew and Zachary all of Cincinnati, Ohio; her cousins Bettye Lou Yakoubian, Paula Kaplan, Sol Rhein, Marietta Catalani, Liane Humble, Scott Yakoubian, Dawn Yakoubian, Todd Yakoubian, Maurice Besser, Ken Besser, Vikki Girone, David Kaplan, Edwin Shollmier and Jeff Shollmier. The family would like to thank Dawn Yakoubian and a very special friend, Stephanie Kimble, for all their love, compassion, and support these last few days. You both are a blessing from God. Family visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2016 followed by a Rosary service at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St, Little Rock, Ark. A mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Holy Souls Church, 1003 N. Tyler, Little Rock at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25 with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock.
