Harry Samuel "Sam" Rankin, 78, of Harrison, Arkansas, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1938, at Pine Bluff to Toney Edward and Effie Davis Rankin. Sam attended schools at Dollarway and Karnack, Texas. He served in the United Sates Navy as a Medical Field Service Technician. He had worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as Lock Master over Lock & Dam 4. Sam loved Christian fellowship and was a faithful witness for his Lord. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and especially enjoyed singing gospel music. He was instrumental in organizing the Hardin Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for several years, was a National Representative of Arkansas Jaycees and an avid golfer. He is preceded in death by a son, Floyd Edward Rankin; his parents; sisters, Lois Nichols, Betty Birkner, Mary Ann Wilson, Nancy Sowrheaver, Gladys Spakes; brothers, Tom, John and Toney Rankin. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Johnson Rankin; a son, Harry S. "Hank" Rankin, Jr. (Deb), of New Blaine, Arkansas; a sister, Janice Poindexter (Randy) of Apollo Beach, Florida; a brother, James Rankin (Carmen) of Delaware, Arkansas; grandson, Zachary Rankin (Brittany) of Germany; granddaughter, Jessica Rankin of Hot Springs; great-grandchildren, Haylie and Ashton Rankin; stepchildren, Tamara Keller of St. Pete, Florida and Jason Baugh of Harrison. Visitation will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Vic McGehee and Reverend Gary Blair officiating.
