John R Long

John R. Long of Bradford departed this life Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the age of 75. He was born September 20, 1940 in Bradford, Arkansas, a son of the late Homer Stell and Alma Jane (Cook) Long. J.R. enjoyed riding horses, tinkering in his shop, working in the Food Pantry, and helping others. He loved his family and his grandbabies; and great grandbabies were a big part of his life. Most people admired J.R. for his Christian outlook on life. His favorite saying when someone asked him if he was doing alright was "I imagine". J.R. is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ann (Duncan) Long; one daughter, Dawn Mooney and husband Ken of Russell; two brothers, Otis Long of Judsonia, and Bob Long of Russell; two sisters, Maelene Salmons and husband Bill of Dowagiac, Michigan, and Dorothy Goodenough and husband Riley of Marcellus, Michigan; two grandsons, Nickolas Beard and wife Lacey, and Kent Mooney and Lauren; one granddaughter, Hunter Mooney Smith; two great grandchildren, Journee Smith and Jaxon Mooney; a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. J.R. was preceded in death by one daughter, Leah DeShawn Gay Beard; one brother, Emmett Long; one sister, Stella Ferrebee; and his parents. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Bradford Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Bradford Memorial Funeral Home with brother Ron Marlin officiating. Interment to follow at Carter Cemetery in Russell. Arrangements entrusted to Bradford Memorial Funeral Home of Bradford, Arkansas.
