Harold Wayne Hallum passed quietly Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in the comfort of his home in Mayflower. He was born in Little Rock to Harold and Emma Mae Hallum on Aug. 2, 1928. "Hank," as he was known to family and friends, spent his early adult life in Little Rock, later moving to his beloved Mayflower. He retired after 40 years of service with Union Pacific Railroad as a Machinist. Hank's true passion was as a devoted loving husband, proud father, active grandfather and excited great–grandfather. Hank had a passion for all things fun and active, rarely missing a chance to travel with family and friends. As a member and caller (or singer) of two square dance clubs, the Twirling Lariats and the Rebel Reelers, he and his wife of 46 years, Faye, often attended National Square Dance Conventions. He even joked about becoming Adjunct Faculty at Hendrix College, teaching students how to square dance (and he still has the campus parking sticker to prove it). Some of his favorite stories revolved around their trips together. An avid golfer, Hank rarely missed an opportunity to win a few quarters from his golfing buddies. On two separate occasions we were all proud to see his name published in the Arkansas Gazette for having made a "Hole-In-One." Holidays were really special times as the whole (and extended) family would gather at Hank and Faye's house for grand meals and especially for Faye's homemade rolls. Hank knew every adult, child and infant by name and remembered each one's favorite activity. Often, well over 30 people would gather around exchanging gifts, laughing, playing and usually loosening their belts a little as well. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Woodrow and Helen. He is survived by his loving wife, Faye; daughter, Carol Wallace (Mike) and their children, Tiffany Huitt (Griff), Mike Wallace Jr., Lauren Ramirez (Joe); daughter, Millie Brown (Dick) and their children, Adam Brown (Rebecca), Ross Brown (Kristen); daughter, Garnet Clark (Floyd, deceased) and their children, Lorri Murray and Sara Clark; son, Jim Strawn (Linda, deceased) and their children, Cassie Strawn, Ginger Henson (Kyle); and 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way for a wonderful even dozen. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Judy Vinceguerra (Vince, deceased) and ‘children of the heart' Dave and Charlotte Shaw and their children, Kenneth and Jennifer. Hank's legacy of love for his family and friends, hard honest work, integrity and loyal kinship lives on in all of us that he leaves behind, but in that same way, we will never be left alone. Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Court (N.W. corner I-630 and Barrow Road), officiated by Mike Wallace, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501) 224-2200. Hank's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
