Virginia Smith Price, age 92, passed away on June 10, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on July 2, 1923 to Hobart and Lona Faulkner Smith of the Unity Community near Paragould, Ark. She attended the one-room Unity School through eighth grade and graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1941. She married Birtrum Mason Price on Aug. 8, 1948. They lived in Paragould, where she worked at Security Bank; in Jonesboro, Ark., where she worked at Arkansas State College; Kerns and Corsicana, Texas, where she worked at Stroud Stell Wholesale Grocer and Collin Street Bakery. They moved to Hope, Ark. in 1967, where they lived for 41 years. She retired from Citizens Bank in 1989 after 20 years of service. Mrs. Price was a gifted storyteller and enjoyed her many plants and flowers. She also enjoyed canning her husband's bountiful garden produce. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hope, Ark., where she taught kindergarten and ladies' Sunday School classes for almost 40 years. The Prices moved to Ruston, La. in 2008 to be near their cherished daughter and grandchildren. Mrs. Price is survived by her sister, Anna Pauline Smith Blackmon of Rock Island, Ill.; brother, John Robert Smith and wife, Bonnie of Paragould, Ark.; daughter, Jenna Price Carpenter and husband, Walter of Ruston, La.; grandson, Trey Carpenter of College Station, Texas; granddaughter, Emma Carpenter of Ruston; and beloved sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Birtrum Mason Price. Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, Ark. on Monday, June 13 at 10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Paragould at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located on the former Gott place which her family farmed her entire childhood. Momma is truly going home.
