Herbert R. (Stormy) Hawn. Jr., died Sunday June 19, 2016. He was born August 14, 1938, to Herbert R. Hawn Sr. and Mary Bray Hawn in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Clelia. He is survived by his beloved wife, Veronica Hernandez; two sisters, Dorothy Hawn Larch of Greers Ferry, Ark., and Mary Beth Hawn Cook of Birmingham, Ala.; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins. Herb graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1956 and enjoyed the valued association with classmates regularly when they met for dinner. After graduation, he worked briefly for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and was accepted to Naval Flight School in Pensacola in 1957. Herb was subsequently stationed in Hawaii with deployment to Japan and flew land based patrol aircraft off the coast of Russia. He then returned to Pensacola as a Flight Instructor. Following active duty, Herb graduated from UA Fayetteville with a degree in Industrial Arts and went to work as a pilot for Pan Am World Airways, flying internationally from New York. After Pan Am dissolved, he returned to Arkansas, where he flew for the Arkansas Highway Department for several years, and then worked at UALR as a systems analyst for 17 years until retirement. He had continued to serve in the Naval Air Reserves during which time he flew jets, his dream since high school days. He later joined the Army Reserves, where he flew helicopters, retiring after a total of 38 years of military service with the rank of Major. In retirement, Herb served 4 years on the Little Rock Planning Commission, was active in neighborhood activities, and continued to enjoy riding his motorcycle and spending time at his lake home in Greers Ferry, where he was also active in various activities. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greers Ferry. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, from 5 to 7 p.m, and the funeral service on Friday, June 24, at 11 a.m., at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
