Sidney L. Camp

Sidney L. Camp of Cabot, Arkansas at the age of 77 slipped the surly bonds of earth and met the Master Architect, March 5, 2016, following a prolonged illness. He was born December 12, 1938 in Ocala, Florida to the late Starks L. Camp and Myrtle A. (Holloway) Camp-Cogburn of Ocala. He graduated High School at Boca Ciega High School, Gulfport, Florida (St. Petersburg) and enlisted following graduation in June 1956 serving 30 years in the US Air Force until his retirement 1 July 1986. He was a Vietnam Vet having served at Da Nang AB, RVN. During his service, he attained the Highest Enlisted Grade of Chief Master Sergeant. His Military Decorations included the Bronze Star, Three Meritorious Service Medals, Two Commendation Medals, the Vietnam Service medal and a number of other awards and decorations. Following retirement he was employed as a Letter Carrier in Cabot with the US Postal Service from January 1987 until his early retirement in April 1998. Following retirement from the Air Force, he resumed his post-graduate work completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree with Park College, Parkville, Mo. (1988) and his Graduate Master of Science Degree from the University of Arkansas (1990) graduating with Honors. A member of the Cabot Masonic Lodge #319, F&AM: Cabot Chapter #509, OES: the Scottish Rite Bodies of Little Rock; and, Scimitar Shrine Temple in Little Rock, he commenced his Masonic affiliation in Trenton, Ill. (Trenton Lodge #109) in July 1969. A former & senior member of Howard Freeze Memorial Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Clearwater, Florida, he was exceptionally active with the young men of the Order of DeMolay (a Masonic sponsored organization for young men age 13-21). He served as Chapter Advisor for Kennemer Chapter, Grandview, Mo. (1973-1977), Mascoutah Chapter, Mascoutah, Ill. (1977-1982), Assistant Executive Officer for the Jurisdiction of Illinois (1982-1984) and as Chapter Advisor/Council Chairman Sylvan Hills Chapter, Sherwood, Ark. (1984-9187). He was involved in organizing the now defunct Chapter in Cabot. He is survived by children: Scott Camp, Raeford, N.C., Julie O'Keefe, Herndon, Va., Lori Merritt, Cabot, Ark., Steven Camp, St. James, Mo., Stuart J Camp, Navarre, Fla., and Hollie Camp, Cabot, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Jack Camp Jr. and Kenneth Camp both of Ocala, Fla. At his request, there will be no Memorial Services. He is to be cremated and his remains interred in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock. He was BORN, he LIVED, and he DIED, and was loved by many. May he Rest in Peace.
