Hazel Brunson

Hazel Jeanette Bell Brunson, 91 of Fayetteville, Ark. died March 27, 2016. She was born September 14, 1924 in DeWitt, Ark. to Edgar Ray and Clara Hunt Bell. She was the last of five children. She finished high school in 1942 in Dewitt and moved to Little Rock, AR to work in a defense plant in Jacksonville. In 1945 she married Clayton Cody Brunson of Colfax, La., a soldier at Camp Robinson, Ark. After her children reached high-school age, she worked fourteen years for Swift Meat Co. She Retired after six additional years with the Student Health center, University of Arkansas. During retirement she was active with the City Hospital Auxiliary working primarily in The Attic, a resale shop. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Hudson, Octavia Brown, and Audrey Dillion, and brother, Edgar Ray Bell Jr. of DeWitt, Ark. She is survived by her husband, Clayton Brunson of the home; children, Garry and wife Raye of Houston, Texas, Keith and wife Terri of Rogers, Ark., Vickie and husband Bill Mathews of Springdale; grandchildren, Tyler and Courtney Brunson of Boone, N.C., Neil and Meagan Brunson of Boone, N.C., Melissa Mathews of Manhattan, N.Y. and Cody Mathews of Fayetteville, Ark. and Reid, Hunter and Emmalee Brunson of Rogers, Ark. and all her great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel of Nelson Berna Funeral Home. Following a private burial service, a memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Fayetteville.
