Alton Gossum

Alton Gossum, age 88, of Sherwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2016. He was born September 23, 1927 in Wingo, Kentucky. Mr. Gossum was a retired mechanic and veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Sherwood, and he loved building things around his home and working on vehicles of all kinds for his family and friends. Mr. Gosum will be remembered as a selfless and giving man, who always put others before himself, he was a positive influence to those he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents, McKeel and Viola Gossum; wives Dorothy "Dot" Gossum and Mary Driver; daughter, Ramona Smiley; and sister, Joan Myatt. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Hoggatt (Dan), son, Mike Berg (Larita), daughter, Debbie King (Butch), son-in-law, Robert Smiley (Phyllis); grandchildren, Jamie, Joshua, Lindsay, Cynthia, Scarlett, Jessica, Zac, Michelle, Mark, Denise, and Paula; 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends that all loved him dearly. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caring staff of Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation for the exceptional care Alton received. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood, with burial with full military honors following at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery in North Little Rock.
