Cheryl J. Colbert

Cheryl J. Colbert, 61, died March 29, 2016 with her family by her side in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born January 23, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lois Tipton and AZ Jumper. Mrs. Colbert was one of nine children. Mrs. Colbert is a graduate of McLain High School, class of 1973 and attended the University of Arkansas where she earned a BSE in Elementary Education and Special Education in 1977. After graduating from the U of A, she began teaching at Butterfield Elementary in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she spent eight years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade and an additional 2 years teaching in Fort Smith, Arkansas at Morrison Elementary. She also worked at the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas for 24 years. She married John L Colbert, August 23, 1975. Together they had two daughters, J'onnelle Colbert-Diaz (Omar Diaz) and Janneesa Colbert. Cheryl is the proud G'Ma to Diana and Sy'Ree Diaz. Her interests included spending time with family, writing, and playing word and trivia games with her family. She devoted much of her time and energy as the family historian, creating family history books going back several generations. She was preceded in death by her father, AZ Jumper; brother, Gene Robinson; Aunt, O'Delle Tipton; father-in-law, LC Colbert; brothers-in-law, Tommy and Terry Colbert; and sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Anderson and Lucille Colbert. Mrs. Colbert leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John L; two daughters, J'onnelle and Janneesa; son-in-law, Omar; granddaughters, Diana and Sy'Ree; her mother, Lois Tipton; her siblings: Wayne Robinson (Mary), Don Muhammad, Rhonda Jumper, Alfred Jumper (Greta), Janice Jumper, Melvin Jumper and Lori Bell; mother-in-law, Willa Mae Colbert; in-laws, Bertha Colbert, Charlie Colbert, Timothy Finley (Misty), Melvin Colbert (Wanda), Shirley Long (Alvin), Will Colbert, Mechell Colbert-Willis (Jeffery) and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held at Beard's Funeral Chapel, 855 S. Happy Hollow Road, Fayetteville, Ark. 72701 on April 1, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. The Service will occur on April 2, 2016 at 1:55 p.m. at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 764 W. North St., Fayetteville, Ark. 72701 with a repast to immediately follow. Fern, Elephant Ear, and Hosta plants can be sent to Beard's Funeral Chapel, 855 S.
