Fayne "Hoot" Gibson

Fayne "Hoot" Gibson, age 84, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away Monday, May 9th 2016 at the Arkansas Veterans Home in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born on February 21, 1932 in Salem, Arkansas to the late F.C. and Letha (Daffron) Gibson. After graduating Yellville/Summit High School 1949 Fayne ran a bread route for Wholesale Bread Company out of Springfield, Mo. Fayne served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 serving in Korea as a Radar Operator. Fayne then went on to serve in the US National Guard stationed at Fort Chaffee until 1960. Fayne married Betty Lou Martin in Harrison, Arkansas. They remained married for 59 years. Fayne and Betty owned and operated Hoots Drive-In until the late 1990's. Hoot's was a Fayetteville legendary eating establishment for over 30 years serving South Fayetteville with Hoot Burgers, Fried Chicken and Milk Shakes. Fayne was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Fayetteville where he led Bible Study groups each week and was instrumental in many church activities. He was an active member of the Gideon's for more than 30 years. Fayne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clive Gibson and Van Gibson, and a sister, Sybil Darden. Fayne is survived his wife, Betty, his son, Larry Gibson and his wife Debbie of Springdale, daughters, Kathy Rice and her husband Lanny of Springdale, Lisa Culver and her husband Scott of Springdale, and Patricia Marshall and her husband Jeff of Fayetteville and a sister, Lavonne Thomas of Springdale. Fayne was blessed with 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Gibson will be Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at Ridgeview Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas with Al Gebauer officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11th from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Nelson - Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Interment will be at Buckner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church or Gideon's Internation.
