Darlene Trantham, 80, of Jacksonville, died peacefully in her home on Friday, May 13, 2016. "Ms. T" was born May 30, 1935, to Grace Livingston and Art Smith of Emporia, Kan. She was adopted by BR and Lois Fairchild at the age of 13. Both sets of parents and her sister Beverly preceded her in death. She is survived by her stepbrother, Dan Smith of Emporia, Kan., her sons; Sammy Trantham of Jacksonville, Bert Trantham of Atlanta, Ga., and her adopted son Raymond Head of Atlanta, Ga., step-grandsons; Brad and Nash Fortson and two step-great-grandchildren; Randy and Corie. Her boys were always first in her life and she dedicated her life to them. After settling in Jacksonville in 1973, she started volunteering with the Air Force Family Services group helping others. Her love for children was proven by her 37 years of service to the Pulaski County school system. She loved sports and kept score for JHS basketball team, served in many support roles for the Gwatney American Legion Team, worked the concession stands for softball and football as well as serving as Babe Ruth Commissioner for many years. She was always willing to help and never said "no" to anyone, always "Yes I can". She was even known to get out and help mark the field before the game. She also worked with the exchange student program hosting Anna from Poland, Valeio from Bulgaria, and Alberto from Venezuela. She also leaves behind our third family, the Franklins, Jo, preceding her in death, Leonard, Daniel, Jefferee, Steve, Clay and Denise. She left this thought for the friends who are too many to mention: "Keep smiling, love life, love each other and live life to the fullest. In all things give thanks, always look to God who knows all, sees all and hears all. Through the valley comes the mountain tops and that is where she will be so do not be defeated but smile, she is happy now". A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity or organization of your choice in her memory. Arrangements are by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, (501) 982-2136. Please sign the online guestbook at www.mooresjacksonvillefuneralhome.com.
