Marceline Davis of North Little Rock, formerly of Star City, courageously completed her battle with Alzheimer's on May 18, 2016. She is now whole again and safe in the arms of Jesus who has been at her side every day of this tremendous struggle. She is survived by daughters: Sandra Clary (Larry) of North Little Rock; Debbie Glover (Eddie) of Conway and son; Mike Davis (Vicky) of Wynne, seven grandchildren; Josh Clary (Jennifer), Sarah Clary Rogers (Charlie), Hannah Glover, Micah Glover (Micheala), Emily Davis Denevan (Zach), Meagan Davis McGuire (Brian), and Lexi Davis Bateman (Caleb); and 13 great-grandchildren: Emma and Ty Clary; Lincoln and Clary Pearl Rogers; Rain and Shiloh Glover; Hadley, Walker, and Davis Denevan; Brax and Brant McGuire; and Cannon and Steele Bateman. Also surviving are siblings: Odessa Odom, Irvin Watkins, Mayon Watkins, Irene Green, Theo Watkins, and Donald Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, and her sisters Lois Adams and Fontaine Lee. First Assembly of God in North Little Rock was her church home, where she loved greeting on Sunday, serving in the women's ministry, and being a part of the Challenger's Sunday School Class. She was a previous member of Calvary Assembly of God in Star City where she faithfully taught Sunday School, worked with the youth, and served as church secretary. As a young woman, Marceline fully embraced her life as wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed and loved the pastimes that her husband loved. Fishing, hunting, and camping were the pleasures for weekends and summers. Parties, cookouts, and birthday celebrations could be counted on. Relatives, friends, and especially children were always welcome in her home. Prayer and scripture study was her daily sustenance and she took seriously the Proverb, "train up a child…" While Marceline counted on her "railroad man" for the family's income, she considered it her job to stretch every penny. She gardened with a passion, filling the freezer full of its bounty. Delicious vegetables and homemade breads, along with the fish and game she so carefully prepared filled her table year round. She was well known for many delicious recipes; chicken and dressing, candied sweet potatoes, chicken pot pie, and fresh coconut cake were some favorites. She gathered the wild berries and numerous fruits growing on their property making jellies, jams and the best pear preserves. She mastered sewing as a young girl and used her skill to provide much of the family's wardrobe. A beautiful, pearl adorned wedding dress for Sandra and a handsome suit for Mike's senior prom hold special memories. She managed well, cut corners, and saved for add-on-projects, family vacations, braces, voice lessons, piano lessons, camps, and college. She modeled the Proverb's 31 woman. As children went off to college, she pursued her long-time dream of going to nursing school. She practiced with Dr. Ross Maynard in Pine Bluff and later served as Nursing Supervisor at the Star City Nursing Home. In her later years she fulfilled her love for working with patients by serving Baptist Hospital, NLR as a dedicated volunteer. Even into the last stages of her illness, there was always a twinkle in her eye when family or caretakers entered the room. "Thank you Hon" and "I love you Hon" were her famous responses at every act of service. She traversed her illness with dignity and gratefulness and in her we saw the reality of Isaiah 46:4 "Even to your old age and grey hairs I am He, who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." We treasure our friendships with our Briarwood family of caretakers. Our family will always remember and be grateful for your acts of kindness and excellent care. We will celebrate the life of our Mother with a visitation at First Assembly of God, NLR, on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a service at 10:00 A.M. and continue that celebration with a 3 p.m. graveside service at Leek Cemetery in Star City.
