James Abraham Hatchett

James Abraham Hatchett, 93, a resident of Plainview, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 12, 1923, in Gurdon to Luther and Lillian Arky Davis Hatchett. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was a brakeman, and later a conductor, with the Missouri/Union Pacific Rail Road and retired after 43 years. He was the oldest member of the Plainview First Baptist Church where he served many years as an usher. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, gospel music and his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 53 years, Evelyn Whitsell Hatchett; and a step-son-, Dewayne White. Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Marie White Hatchett of Plainview; a daughter, Linda Hatchett of Dallas, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Betsy Hatchett of Conway; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Judy and Jack Hays of Rison; a step-daughter-in-law, Debra White of Rison; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; special family members, The Tomlin Family of North Little Rock; and other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Plainview First Baptist Church with the Rev. Monroe Hunt and the Rev. Johnny Upchurch officiating. Burial will be in Carter Cove Cemetery at Plainview under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at First Baptist Church, prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jerry Tomlin, Jay Jones, Jack Hays, Kenny Ashcraft, Gary Funderburg, Max Brandon and Larry Bell.
