Jim L. Black, 74, of Batesville and Cave City died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 3, 1942 to the late James Earl and Mary Louise (Barnes) Black. Bro. Jim was a Southern Baptist minister serving at Ruddell Hill Baptist Church for 16 years and Sage Baptist Church for five years. He also served as the Chaplain at White River Medical Center for 16 years before retiring. Bro. Jim's ministry also included being the Chaplain for the police department and prison. He served his country for seven years in the Army National Guard. He loved to play golf and for a time, he had a hobby golf shop. Fishing for crappie and brim, and hunting were things he enjoyed, but being with his grandchildren and family were among his favorite times. He had the heart of a servant and was always helping people and as an optimistic person, he enjoyed life. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra G. (Smirl) Black; two daughters, Cheryl Spurlin and husband, Steve of Lubbock, Texas and Christi Parrish and husband, Jamie of Vilonia, Arkansas; and three grandchildren, Camryn Spurlin, Christian Spurlin, and Jay Parrish. Other survivors include his sister, Sandy Black, of Cabot, Arkansas and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rita Grove. A gathering of friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville.
