Carroll Dayton Elkins

Carroll Dayton Elkins was born on December 15, 1929 and passed from this life on October 31, 2016. He was the first of nine children born to Emmett and Vera Boyd Elkins. He graduated valedictorian from Booneville High School where he sang in the choir, played in the band, was a member of the debate team and FFA. He went on to Arkansas Tech to further his education then enlisted in the Navy. He returned to Northwest Arkansas, married Elizabeth Baker and had three boys, Steve, Gary and Larry Elkins. Carroll was strong in his faith and raised his children in church while he lead singing. Ever the responsible big brother and father he worked for Campbell Soup Company in the accounting department for 36 years in Paris, Texas before retiring. He met Nancy Watson while working at Campbell Soup Company. They were married on August 25, 1973. Nancy had a daughter Suann who he raised as his own. He coached his boys in little league baseball for 12 years. He and Nancy loved to travel the U.S. and Canada visiting national parks. He was an avid deer hunter but in recent years he thought they were too beautiful to hunt and enjoyed watching them on his property here in Fayetteville where he and Nancy made their home after retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church Fayetteville and sang in the choir. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Doris Elkins Hoskins, Peggy Elkins Knepel and Joyce Elkins Hulse. He leaves behind his loving wife, Nancy Watson Elkins of 43 years; sons, Steve Elkins of Orlando, Fla., Gary Elkins of Flower Mound, Texas and Larry Elkins of Denton, Texas; his daughter, Suann Moore of Fayetteville, Ark.; grandchildren, Heather Elkins Coulter and husband, Chad of Springfield, Mo., Holly Elkins Pushefski and husband, Mike of West Branson, Mo., Nicholas Elkins of Orlando, Fla., Ashley Elkins of Denton, Texas, Miranda Elkins of Wylie, Texas, Zach Elkins and wife, Madison of Waco, Texas, Kristin Elkins and Amanda Elkins of Flower Mound, Texas, and Geno Allen of Paris, Texas; siblings, Jerry Elkins of Ft. Worth, Texas, Don Elkins of Fayetteville, Ark., Terry Elkins of Fayetteville, Ark., Nick Elkins of Fayetteville, Ark., Darlene Elkins Davis of Fayetteville, Ark.; and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Beard's Chapel. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Beard's Chapel with Dr. Douglas Falknor officiating. Interment will follow in McCord Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
