Betty Alice Brown Templeton was born August 27, 1922 to Joseph Adam Brown and Grace Mae Thompson-Brown in Riverview, Arkansas. Betty graduated from Morrilton High School in 1941. She was a founding member of Riverview Baptist Church. As many women of this greatest generation, Betty worked at the Ordinance Plant in Jacksonville throughout World War II. There she met Martha Laurene Templeton-Gately and became fast friends. Laurene wanted Betty to meet her brother, Charles. They began to date and Betty married Charles Templeton, eloping to Beebe, December 13, 1945. Betty set up housekeeping while Charles worked at Lowman & Lowman until 1957. Betty had two children born by this time, Jane and Ray. Betty and Charles opened Templeton's Grocery together in Cabot in 1957. They expanded to a larger store in 1962. The Cabot tornado of March 29, 1976 destroyed their store. They built and opened the new Templeton IGA store within 3 months, July 1, 1976. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Cabot for 71 years. She taught young adults and youth Sunday school classes and fulfilled other obligations in the church, later volunteering at First Care. Betty was named Cabot Woman of The Year in 1978. They retired 1982 to enjoy more traveling, attend Razorback games and devote time to family and grandkids. She enjoyed quilting, picking up and shelling pecans, making jelly and cooking. She and Charles enjoyed family get-togethers, especially holidays in their home. Betty is predeceased by parents; husband, Charles R. Templeton, Jr. and brother, William Brown, survived by daughter, Jane (Troy) Shafer; son, Ray Templeton (Paulette); grandchildren, Andy, Beth, Clay (Savannah) and Hallie; sisters, Ida Mae Jenkins, June Dicus, Nila Bailey; brothers, JB and Claude Brown; special niece, Jo and husband Sam Howell, many nieces, nephews and friends.
