Dana Owen Donaldson

Dana Owen Donaldson died peacefully in Bella Vista, Ark., November 3, 2016 from complications of diabetes. He was born June 24, 1947 to Owen and Eileen Donaldson. He was one of the first babies born at the new Norman Municipal Hospital. Growing up, Dana attended Norman public schools and graduated from Norman High School in 1965. His studies at the University of Oklahoma followed, with a focus in petroleum land management and involvement with the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. A theme in his life was his love of horses, walking them when he was 11 playing with the Norman Polo Club at 15 and restarting the O.U. polo team with some friends. After O.U. he moved to Australia and had an opportunity to play polo with Prince Charles. While there, he studied international business at The University of New South Wales and opened a Taco restaurant in Bondi Beach. He then married New Zealander, Elizabeth Campbell and they began their home life in Norman. He was employed for 40 years as a petroleum landman, working on projects in several states. Dana's hobbies included flying airplanes and gliders as well as skydiving, having made several hundred jumps. His marriage ended and he was single for many years. This was followed by a short marriage to Kandace Comeaux. Their daughter Burgundy embraced her dad's passion for horses and horseback riding. Over the past decade, Dana was a volunteer coach for the OSU men's and women's polo teams, which he continued after he moved to Bella Vista, Ark. five years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, three dear aunts and a cousin. He is survived by his daughter, Burgundy Comeaux and granddaughter Athena, three brothers, Doug, Dennis, David and wife Ellen and nephew Drew and wife Kim and children August and Robbie. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Epting Funeral Home, Bentonville, Ark.
