Barbara Lynn Brown

Barbara Lynn Brown, 65, of Fayetteville, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 at the Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born Nov. 25, 1950 in Chicago to Floyd and Helen Svabota Brown. Barbara graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in Kansas City, Kan., in 1968 where she was a champion orator in the debate club. She also loved music and performed in the school's production of My Fair Lady. Her father retired and the family moved to Hawaii where she attended the state's university. She later attended Purdue and then the University of Arkansas where she completed her PhD in psychology. She worked for AHEC for 10 years and then entered private practice for 33 years. Barbara taught occasionally at the U of A and conducted training workshops for physicians. For 23 years Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family at their second home on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. She also enjoyed trips to New Orleans. She helped develop the women's shelte, now Peace at Home Family Shelter, and remained active in its support. She is survived by her partner of 35 years, Linda Clay; one son, Zachary Brown; and one grandson, Rowan Brown all of Fayetteville. A celebration of her life is planned for a later date.
