LTC C.A. Archer USA Ret., age 82, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was born July 1, 1934 in Dierks, the son of the late Jerome Adolphus and Mary Estella Cox Archer. Charlie was a retired pilot with the United States Army having served three tours in Vietnam. His aircraft was struck by enemy fire numerous times, but he was only shot down once during his second tour. Charlie was a distinguished military graduate of Henderson State University and attended numerous schools including Chemical, Biological and Radiological, Ranger, Airborne, Fixed Wing and Multi Engine Aircraft, Rotary Wing and Multi Engine Helicopter, Instructor Pilot and the Command and General Staff College. He received many awards and citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medals, Accommodation Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service awards, Bronze Star, Dept. of the Army Staff Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Senior Aviators Badge and Expert Infantry Badge. Charlie was a member of Arkadelphia Masonic Lodge #381 and attended Third Street Baptist Church. He worked for the Department of Human Services before retiring to enjoy hunting, fishing and gardening. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lil Jeter, Juanita Barnett and Lura Archer; three brothers, Willis, Ruel and J.A. Archer. Survivors are his wife, Martha Burns Archer of the home; one daughter, Carol (Mike) Holland of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Charlie (Linda) Archer of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren, Heather Hostetler, Ashley (Justin) Bean, Mason and Braden Archer; one sister, Imogene Graves of Dierks, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at Third Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia with Bro. Greg Lathem officiating. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Third Street Baptist Church, P.O. Box 763, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.
