Betty Rose Chaney, 87, of Fort Smith, died Sept. 28, 2016 in Fort Smith. She was born December 29, 1928 in Poteau, Okla., to William Edward and Hessie Ray Kersh Kinsey. Betty and her husband Clyde were the owners of the Trot Line Restaurant and Betty was the founder of the Golden Rule Clothes Closet and co-founder of the Heart to Heart Pregnancy Crisis Center. Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Red Hat Society, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the I.C. Ladies Auxiliary. Betty and Clyde were chosen several times as the Family of the Year by the Knights of Columbus and once as the State Family of the Year. They also received the 59th Annual Golden Rule Award from the Fort Smith Noon Exchange Club. She is survived by her husband Clyde of the home; two daughters, Cyndy Ward of Roland, Okla., and Tamra and husband Wayne Stahl of Dover, Ark.; two sisters, Lettitia Fruge' of Gonzalez, La., and Marie Kendall of Sapulpa, Okla.; one brother, Edward and wife Vern Kinsey of Fayetteville, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Bubba Brown, Marty and wife Marlena Brown, Chris and wife Cristy Brown, Buffy Walter, Daniel and wife Sherry Stahl, Kaasha Hassel, Krista and husband John Stockton, Rachelle Chaney, and Aaron and wife Kristin Jay; seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Chery (Wendy) Walter; a son, Mark Chaney; two sisters, Florene Tomblee and Anna Dell Tisdale; one brother, Carl Ray Kinsey; and grandson Jason Luper. Rosary will be said Monday, October 3, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be said on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery of Fort Smith, all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Charles Brown, Marshall Brown, Chris Brown, Daniel Stahl, Aaron Jay, and John Stockton. The family will greet friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. follow the Rosary. Memorials may be made to the Golden Rule Clothes Closet 212 North 3rd Fort.
