Charlotte Burks Martin White

Charlotte Burks Martin White of Little Rock, formerly of Dumas, went to her heavenly home on October 3, 2016 in Little Rock at the age of 92. She was born March 24, 1924 in Wilmar, Arkansas to the late James R. Burks and Mamie Carson Burks. She was a lifelong member of Dumas First Assembly of God Church, where she served as Women's Ministries President, Sunday school teacher and Choir Member. For 14 years, she served as the manager of the school cafeteria at Central Elementary in Dumas. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, reading her bible, working in the church, watching and listening to her mockingbirds, spending time with her family and cooking. No one could cook like "Mamaw Martin", who was known for her homemade pies and Mississippi Mud Cake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Martin and Grady White, two sisters, Coletha Barlow and Dorothy Lane; five brothers, Ralph Burks, Monroe Carson, J.C. Carson, Bruce Carson, Steele Burks and Leroy Burks; and two great-grandchildren, Corey McGee and Lindsey Martin. Charlotte is survived by her five sons, Robert L. Martin and wife Judy of Spring, Texas, Bill Martin and wife Maritza of Lynn Haven, Florida, Chester Martin and wife Marsha, of Lynn Haven, Florida, Charles Martin and wife Laura of Woodstock, Georgia, and J.D. Martin of Little Rock, Arkansas. One daughter, Freda Martin of Russellville, Arkansas. She has 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5, from 12-1 p.m. followed by service at 1 p.m. both at Dumas First Assembly of God Church with burial in Walnut Lake Cemetery in Dumas.
