Bob Blackston

Bob Blackston died August 28, 2016 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born August 31, 1933 Bobby Frank Blackston in Carroll County, village of Oak Grove, Arkansas to Seaf Clyde and Ruth Cephus Alford Blackston. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Artie Clyde Blackston and Richard Dee Blackston. Bob graduated from Berryville High School May 18, 1951 and joined the United States Navy in December 1951. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Essex CDA-9. He received his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1956. Bob entered classes at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1957 and was initiated into Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity October 15, 1958. He was chapter president in 1959-1960. He continued to be active in AGR serving as Alumni Advisor during 1960's and 1970's. Bob met his wife Lyn in Fayetteville August 1959. They married July 30, 1960, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary July 30, 2016. After graduating college, Bob worked as a US Customs agent in New Orleans then returned to Fayetteville where he had a long career building and owning Blackston Insurance Agency and Homestead Realty. Bob derived a great deal of pleasure from the 56 years he played golf and the numerous friends he made as a result of the shared interest. He had the experience of making two holes in one during his golfing career. Bob is survived by his wife Lyn (Adelyn Haskins) Blackston; one daughter, Andrea Nicole Blackston-Lenahan of Carl Junction, Missouri; one son, Mitchell Frank Blackston and his wife Teresa of West Fork, Arkansas; three sisters, Bettie Joe Blackston Schultz and her husband David of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, Dorothy Ruth Blackston Hopten and her husband John of Green Forest, Arkansas, Marion Sue Blackston Wright and her husband Bill Don of Fayetteville; three brothers, Jim Eugene Blackston and his wife Shirley of Fayetteville, Lonnie Howard Blackston and his wife Virginia of Matlock, Washington and Florence, Arizona, Jerry Lee Blackston and his wife Andrea of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Michael Eric Blackston, Chase Michael Lenahan, Courtney Michelle Blackston and Bailey Nicole Lenahan. Friends are invited to join the Blackston family for a drop in Celebration of his life 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks, 4703 North Crossover Road in Fayetteville.
