Vander Jewel Deaton, 92, of Benton, passed away October 10, 2016. He was born April 18, 1924 in Saline County to the late Willis and Esther Burgess Deaton. Vander was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church, retired from Reynolds Metals Corp after 38 years and served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Herbert Deaton and great-grandson, Colin Zeitler. Vander is survived by his wife, Mary Willene Deaton of Benton, son, John (Janice) Deaton of Gravette, Arkansas, daughter, Melissa (Rod) Matte of College Station, Texas, grandchildren, Wendy (Ryan) Zeitler, Stephanie Deaton McLeod, Meghan (Lucas) Gregory, Pamela (Nathan) Roberson and Justin Deaton, great-grandchildren, Clayton, Eli, Aaron and Brett Zeitler, Elizabeth, Lane and Hannah Gregory, Payton, Nolan and Vance Roberson. A visitation will be held at Ashby Funeral Home, Friday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Carlton Cross officiating.
