Judy Poindexter Welch, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away on October 13, 2016 at the Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born in Taft, Texas. on September 29, 1936 to Silas Bolin and Gipsie Hodge Messer. She worked for the Washington County Sheriff's Office for many years and retired in 2001. She married Dr. Robert C. Welch on September 14, 1996. They made their home on Mount Sequoyah for 19 years where she was known for her beautiful gardens and care of the area wildlife, particularly the numerous deer who made their way to her home each day to be fed and watered. She and Bob enjoyed traveling together during their 20 years of marriage and were devoted to their children and grandchildren. Judy was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and served faithfully for nearly a decade in Community Meals, Actions and Truth and Beyond Our Walls, ministries which seek to meet the physical and spiritual needs of area residents. She had a heart for the underprivileged of Northwest Arkansas, particularly children, and worked tirelessly to collect food and clothing for those in need. She was a longtime blood donor at Community Blood Center, always feeling a deep responsibility to give anything she could to benefit someone in need. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Johnnie Frances Childers; a stepson and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Andy and Joyce Welch and their children, Maddison and Samuel. She is survived by her husband, Bob Welch of Fayetteville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Guy and Shirley Poindexter of Baytown, Texas and Ray Poindexter of Farmington; a stepdaughter and her husband, Betsy and Clint Foster of Charlottesville, Va. and their children, Cassidy Foster and Graham Foster; a niece, Sharon Skaggs of Houston, Texas and numerous friends who loved her dearly and considered her family. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Beard's Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Central United Methodist Church with inurnment to follow at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
