Royce M. Carter, 90, of Mineral Springs, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. He was born Sept. 21, 1926 at Stuttgart, the son of William Arthur Carter and Ella Isbell Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Carter; son, Billy Royce Carter; four brothers; and two sisters. Royce was a U.S. Army veteran and Christian in his faith. He worked 20 years for National Steel and in retirement was a rancher, farmer and bred and raced thoroughbred horses. He was an avid fisherman, loved animals and enjoyed gardening, planting "food plots" for the deer and putting up hay for the season. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Bill) Daughety of McKinney, Texas and Linda (Stephen) Sunwall of Little Rock; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Judy) Carter of Lonoke; sisters, Mary Lou Chiappone of San Diego, Calif., Betty Cooper of Santee, Calif., and Marcy (Gene) Shoemaker of Angleton, Texas; stepdaughter, Billy Joyce Hentsch of Tullahoma, Tenn.; best friends, Mike and Carlee Shelton of Lockesburg; many nieces and nephews; and his three cherished dogs who were constant companions, Jake, Little Girl and Big Girl. Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, in Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Dale Carter officiating with visitation at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
