W.T. (Bill) Detherage, 90, of the East End Community (Saline County) died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Hospice Home Care facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, following an extended illness. Bill leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary Pearl (Pool) Detherage; his daughter, Debbie Detherage Ward (Neal); his son, Tom Detherage (Connie); four grandchildren, Beth Detherage Dority (Andrea), Nicole Ward Blood (Nick), Drew Detherage, and Natalie Ward Allen (John); four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Jo Richmond, Jack Ward Allen, Kensley Mae Blood, and Josephina Pearl Allen; brother-in-law, Dorman Preston Speer (Carolyn/Melba), so many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Claud Detherage and Alice (McGill) Detherage Henderson, his step-father, Monroe Henderson, his brother, Leon Detherage. Bill was born November 10th, 1925 in Sulfur Springs, Arkansas. He was raised in Lonsdale, Arkansas, and he graduated from Rural Dale School in 1943. Bill served in the United States Navy from February, 1944 until May, 1946. He received two Bronze Stars from the Philippine Liberation campaign and two Bronze Stars from the Asiatic-Pacific campaign. His highest rank in the United States Navy was Gunner's Mate Third Class. Bill also served in the United States Army Reserves, and the United States army from 1961 to 1962, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. Bill's occupation was as an electrician. He worked for several companies throughout his life, but he retired in 1986 from the Teletype Corporation (AT&T Alcatel-Lucent). Visitation will Tuesday, October 18th, at Ashby Funeral Home (Benton, Arkansas) from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, October 19th, at 2 p.m. at Ashby Funeral Home, and he will be interred in a family plot at Ten Mile Cemetery in Lonsdale, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Ten Mile Cemetery (we do not know address).
