Marie Pamplin of Hot Springs died Monday Oct. 17, 2016 at the age of 88. Marie was born in Mena, Ark. to the Rev. J. A. Parker and Lela Lane Parker on Dec. 9, 1927. Marie graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1945. She was Miss Hot Springs in 1946 and went on to attend the University of Arkansas where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. She was a member Chi Omega sorority and represented the University of Arkansas in Memphis at the Cotton Contest. In 1948 she married Frank Pamplin, Jr. They moved to Mountain Home, Ark., where Frank was employed with the Corps of Engineers as an engineer on Bull Shoals Dam. Marie taught school there for 2 years before having children. Frank's job with the Corps of Engineers took them to Little Rock where he was employed in the district office for the construction of two lock and dams for the Arkansas River project. Marie taught a few years at Forest Park and Brady schools and then became a stay at home mom. When Frank retired they moved to Hot Springs Village where they had 10 wonderful years enjoying all their friends and all the amenities the Village had to offer. In 1988 Marie and Frank moved back to Hot Springs transferring their membership back to First United Methodist Church where they had been married. Marie was a very outgoing person who enjoyed people. She was in several bridge clubs, dance clubs in the Village, church circles and Criterion club. After Frank's retirement they spent much time in Perdido Key, Florida. Then when her daughter and son-in-law decided to move to Perdido Key, she was not going to be left behind. For the last two years of her life she lived on the beach or close by in her independent apartment at the Veranda of Pensacola. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers, Raymond Parker, James Parker and sister- in- law Bobby Jean brother- in- law and sister- in-law Leonard and Jeanne Ellis her nephews Lance Ellis, Leonard Ellis, III and niece Susan Goodrum. She is survived by daughter Laney Jackson and husband Michael of Pensacola, her son Frank Pamplin and wife Jean of Bryant, her granddaughters Laura Shivers and partner Pete Razatos and Cecilee and Parker Pamplin, nieces Laura Smith and husband John Wayne and Lavinia Webb and husband Tim, nephews Michael Ellis and wife Connee, Bill Parker and wife Cathy. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert McCrary for helping Marie have a long and wonderful life. A memorial will be at First United Methodist church of Hot Springs on Nov. 4, 2016 at 2 p.m. Immediately following there will be a reception in the Christian Life Building. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs or a charity of your choice.
