Henry Chalmer Cameron

HENRY C. CAMERON of North Little Rock went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 1, 2016. He was born on Aug. 27, 1922 to Clarence E. and Grace Cameron in Carlisle, Ark. Henry grew up on a farm. At the age of 15, he saved John McIntyre, a two year old boy, from a well he had fallen into. Because of his bravery, he was awarded a bronze medal by the Carnegie Hero Fund. At 17, he joined the United States Navy where he served during WWII in the Asian Theater. He also served in Korea and his enlistment was extended due to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he settled in North Little Rock and became a respected and well known residential homebuilder. Henry was a longtime member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Cameron and his parents. He is survived by two sons, Henry T. Cameron (Betty) of Redfield, Ark., and Richard A. Cameron (Charlotte) of North Little Rock, Ark.; four grandchildren, Chris Cameron, Danny Cameron of Kennewick, Wash., Patrick Cameron of Dallas, Texas, and Ashley Allen of Atlanta, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace E. Rayborn of Carlisle, Ark., and Dorothy Henderson of Decatur, Ala.; longtime friend, Louise Loomis of Sherwood, Ark.; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with Pastor Keith Brickell officiating.
